QUEEN OF FRUITS

Mangosteen is an ultra-tropical fruit originating from South Asia. It is called the Queen of Tropical Fruits because of the appearance and wonderful taste of its small purplish fruits. Mangosteen tree begins to bear fruit from about 10 years old. The fruit consists of two parts; It has a thick purplish and soft skin on the outside, and a milky-white, edible fruit flesh on the inside. It consists of tangerine-shaped slices (5-7 slices) and some of these slices contain a large core. The slice with the core is larger than the others.

Since it is an ultra-tropical fruit, it is produced in limited countries in the world. These; Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brazil and India. As seen in the climate zone, trees cannot live below 5 degrees. Young seedlings, on the other hand, cannot survive below 10 degrees. It has a high humidity requirement and likes rainy climates. It is also not drought resistant. Therefore, it is not a species that can be grown in our country. Although a cold-resistant species is mentioned, I have not been able to reach it yet. Mangosteen produces twice a year, in July-October and April-June. It is one of the most expensive tropical fruits because it is produced in very few countries.
